Referrals to the Forensic Center

The Los Angeles County Elder Abuse Forensic Center reviews referrals on a case-by-case basis.  Referrals will be reviewed from professionals only which include:  APS, Ombudsman, Law Enforcement, District Attorney's Office, City Attorney's Office, Victim-Witness Assistance Program Advocates, GENESIS, the Coroner's Department, the Regional Center, and other related fields. Presenters should contact the Special Project Manager. 

The types of abuse are:  physical abuse, sexual abuse, financial abuse, emotional abuse, abandonment, isolation, abduction, neglect, or self-neglect.

If you suspect elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation, call one of the following:

  1. Los Angeles County Adult Protective Services (APS) - 877-477-3646  (abuse in private home)
  2. Long-Term Care Ombudsman - 800-231-4024 (abuse in long-term care facility)
  3. Your local law enforcement agency
  4. Your State's Elder Abuse Hotline or reporting number.

In an emergency call 911 or the local police.

Los Angeles County Adult Protective Services (APS) is the state-mandated 24-hour program which receives reports of suspected abuse/neglect of elders (age 65 or older) and dependent adults (physically or mentally impaired 18 - 64 year olds).  Los Angles County APS social workers investigate the reported situations and provide appropriate intervention services, as needed. Any endangered elder or dependent adult is eligible for APS without regard to income.
